"Stand
for Children
is a citizen voice for children. Our
mission is to teach everyday people how to join together in an effective
grassroots voice in order to win concrete, long-lasting improvements for
children, at both state and local levels. Since 1999, Stand for Children members
have won 88 state and local victories, achieving a number of important education
reforms and leveraging more than $1.7 billion in public funding for programs
that are improving the lives of more than 2.7 million children. Every
dollar contributed to Stand for Children has delivered $115 in public funding
for schools and other children's programs - a remarkable return on
investment."

"The North Reading United for Education Committee promotes adequate funding from both local and state tax dollars for the sound operation of the North Reading Public Schools."
Dear Fellow Citizens:
Welcome to the North Reading United for Education (NRUE) web site.
NRUE's leadership focuses on securing ongoing adequate funding for North Reading's
public schools.
This website seeks to provide North Reading's citizens with accurate, timely information regarding education funding in North Reading.
Last year, inadequate funding brought significant reductions in North Reading's school day
and programs.
Specifically, as all parents are aware, our elementary and middle schools had a half day EVERY Wednesday.
This was not only unacceptable, it was just absolutely wrong.
With a grassroots effort and a budget of just $1,300, NRUE successfully advocated to restore these programs and teachers to the school budget. In all, more than $700,000 previously cut was replaced.
Through Stand for Children, we also embarked on an effort at the state level to continue legislative and gubernatorial focus on bringing adequate education aid to cities and towns. Last year, North Reading's Chapter 70 education aid grew $857,000.
However, we cannot rest on these successes. The coming year's budget process for FY2010 promises to be as difficult as ever. NRUE and all parents need to continue advocacy for quality education in North Reading.
We welcome you to join us and to continue to use your voice and your vote to support education in North Reading. If you have questions, concerns, or feedback, please email us at info@nrue.org
NRUE needs your financial support. We cannot continue our efforts this year without new donations. Please send donations to Pete Kaepplinger, NRUE Treasurer, 9 Fieldstone Way, North Reading, MA 01864.
